Apoaequorin: Exploring the Science and Potential Benefits

Apoaequorin

In 1961 a group of researchers from Princeton University were working at Friday Harbor near Seattle, Washington. They noticed that a constant stream of glowing jellyfish floated by their lab each day and decided to study this specific species of jellyfish called Aequorea victoria to determine what caused them to glow. Led by Osamu Shimomura, PH.D, the group developed an extraction process and eventually discovered that the cause of the glowing jellyfish was a specific ingredient. Researchers began using this ingredient, apoaequorin, in many experiments. Decades of research and laboratory use then followed.

Understanding Apoaequorin and the Jellyfish Connection

What is Apoaequorin?

Apoaequorin is a unique substance originally discovered in a species of jellyfish known as Aequorea victoria. While the jellyfish itself is a fascinating creature with bioluminescent properties, it's the substance extracted from it that has piqued the interest of researchers and individuals.
